Preceptor orientation program conducted for Community Pharmacists in the UAE

On 17th of February, 2020, the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences conducted its “Preceptor Orientation program-2020” for the UAE Community Pharmacists who are currently training the Final year B. Pharm students undergoing their Community Pharmacy II rotations.  The theme of the event was “Patient safety and role of Community pharmacists”. The program objective was to orient the Community Pharmacists towards the student training and to advance the Pharmacists’ practices related to Safe use of medicines.

The Dean, Prof. Nageeb Hassan welcomed the participants and briefed them on the importance of Experiential learning for the buddng pharmacists. The Head of the Department of Clinical Sciences, Dr. Muaed Alomar stressed upon the College’s expectations from the Community Pharmacists in training the students.

The program was then continued by the Experiential learning team members who briefed the participants on the ‘Daily log activities’ to be performed by the students, and the ‘Preceptor evaluation of the Community Pharmacy II rotation’. This was followed by a small group learning (SGL) session on ‘Patient safety and role of Community Pharmacists’. The session included group activities in which the participants worked in small groups and performed assigned tasks related to patient safety.

The program concluded with certificate distribution and obtaining participant feedback which was highly positive.

The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences considers Experiential learning as a unique opportunity for the students in practicing pharmacy and experiencing “Real life scenarios”, ultimately enabling them to be a better health provider and attaining their futuristic goals.
