World Diabetes Day Marked at Ajman University

College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in coordination with the Community Services Department organized a diabetes awareness day on campus at Ajman University of Science and Technology. Male and Female students from all colleges were targeted through this campaign to promote a healthy lifestyle and to reduce the risk of developing this disease.

Health checkups like free blood sugar, blood pressure, BMI and body fat were conducted for the participant, the counselors at the event gave consultations on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. A lecture was held on the sidelines of the event to raise awareness about diabetes; the ways to avoid and manage diabetes was highlighted along with the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle especially for the younger generation.

It proved to be very useful to students, as it gave them the chance to practice their profession and enhance their clinical skills as well as awareness benefits to the patients who appreciated the free tests. The tests were performed accurately and professionally, along with proper patient counselling according to the results. Students in an exclusive exhibition displayed poster presentations and volunteers at the event distributed brochures.

Of the 7.5 million population in the UAE, 804,000 people are living with diabetes — a prevalence of 10.7 per cent. The younger generation is at a higher risk of being affected by this disease, Ajman University strives to ensure the welfare of its students therefore such events provide momentum to its awareness campaigns.
