Year of Scientific Achievements Celebrated at College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences

A commemorative ceremony to celebrate the scientific achievements of the academic year 2013-2014 was organized by the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. The feats achieved by the students, faculty members and College were all highlighted and presented with awards on this occasion.

Notably, one of the many events organized by the College was the World Diabetes Day, famously known as the Blue Day also. During this event several schools from the Emirates of Ajman were also invited to participate in a walkathon titled “Elimination of Diabetes”. There were free glucose and blood sugar tests conducted as part of this campaign across the University campus.

This year witnessed the establishment of the research center at the College, under the able supervision of Dr. Mohammad Waseemul Islam, assistant professor at AUST College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Director of the Alternative Medicine Centre. The researches that have emerged as a result have has astounding results, one such unique research was by presented by Dr. Alaa Farajallah, as her Masters who deduced the relationship between the hormones and diabetes mellitus type II.

Another AUST pharmacy students group: Maryam Samadi, Suha Ghazal and Asmaa Ahmed conducted a unique in vitro experiment to evaluate pharmacological effects of plants in a leading approach to control diabetes mellitus, depression and anxiety. This research was also supervised by Dr. Islam.

Numerous scientific researches were also published in various local and internationally renowned scientific journals. Along with these the College also participated in regional conferences and competitions and secured ranks and awards on behalf of AUST.

Recent events also include the celebration of World Asthma Day, to mark the international day and raise awareness about the ailment, treatment and its prevention. The most prominent recommendation of this event was the establishment of Asthma Centre to support the patients and the awareness campaigns of this ailment.
